Back To Work

After spending a week in swimsuits and sundresses, it’s no fun putting on a bra and tights. Ha! But back to work means back to professional attire, like it or not…and actually, I do like it. 😉

Lately I have discovered that my favorite outfits consist of combining three colors…sure, I like the simplicity of a monotone outfit…and who can resist the combo of black and white or camel and black, but when I am coordinating separates and ‘something’s not quite right’, often times adding a third color does the trick!
With this yellow pencil skirt (Banana Republic) and black wool jacket (Anthropologie), it was the addition of the white top (instead of black) that felt more visually interesting to me…

You can’t go wrong with basics – this simple fitted boat neck with cap sleeves is by Helmut Lang…no need for a necklace and comfortable under a jacket – a great year round staple.

The jacket I have had for over fifteen years…the fitted style and ruffled peplum works well with wide legged trousers, a pleated skirt, or as seen here, with a pencil skirt…the classic Chanel pin adds a bit of life to the solid black…it was a great find at Revolve in Belmont Center…if you stop in often you are bound to find treasures!

With a pencil skirt than falls below the knee, wearing a heel is a must! Ideally wear a pointed or tapered toe, and a heel that’s at least three inches (slim heel or block heel both ok). Save your lower boots for skirts that hit above the knee.

Getting ready to hit the road means hat, scarf, gloves – well in this case, hood, scarf, gloves. 🙂 As I was just about to leave the house, I realized that temps were in the high thirties, not so frigid…

A quick switch to a lighter weight scarf and off I went…
Do YOU ever make a last minute outfit change/adjustment just as you are about to leave the house? Maybe add or remove jewelry? Change your shoes? Wear a different jacket? Do tell!
Happy Monday!

I normally don’t change anything more than jewelry at the last minute. I lay out my entire outfit the night before, including shoes. I can’t go to sleep if I don’t do that. I have to have everything ready to go in the morning. But I will change my mind on jewelry.
