A Break from Black
Another day at the office, another cold, gray winter day…earlier in the week I was on a business trip where my outfits were all based in black to make for easier packing…now was time for a break from black! No sun for days is another good reason to brighten things up. Navy and yellow sounds good! Yup, that was what I first reached for, a yellow cashmere sweater to wear over the white shirt. No go. Didn’t like how the sweater covered up the skirt’s unique waist details. Instead, I put a navy lace-trimmed cami under the cotton shirt and tucked it all in for a crisp business casual look.
This is a purple label Ralph Lauren skirt, a fine wool in an authentic sailor style – nautical is not for summer only! Found it last year at Revolve in Lexington. The basic white shirt is by Theory, in pima cotton with a touch of spandex. It definitely needs regular ironing to look polished and I always use Niagra Spray Starch, as did my mom. 😉
No red scarf for me – way too predicable with navy and white…instead, a luxurious brown/gold scarf by Louis Vuitton. A recent treat to myself while shopping in London…
The scarf is generously sized and made of rayon, cashmere, and silk – lightweight enough to be worn in different ways, yet still soft and cozy.
I love the original LV color and couldn’t resist carrying my classic LV tote. Yeah, I broke the rule of ‘don’t match’ – what do you think? Too much?
Coat is a winter white wool wrap by BCBG…
Ready to head out without a stitch of black!
Wonder if I could go a whole week without wearing black? Could you???

like it….. scarf and bag go well…. not too much alike …… at all…. the white really breaks it up.
Nice outfit….
I could never go an entire week without wearing black (except in the summer). I wear black at least twice per week. I love the entire outfit but especially your new scarf. I love it when you can buy a new piece to remember a special trip. And the LV scarf and bag – not to matchy at all.
