Bel Ragazzo (Italian: handsome guy)

One of the many joys of summer that never gets old is a visit to the Italian North End of Boston… crowds of men and women of all ages with sights, sounds, and smells that can’t be beat…nothing better than landing window seats at one of the many great restaurants and watching the people pass by. On a recent Friday night, we decided to head in for drinks and a light dinner.  With ZERO prompting from me, this is what Peter wore… Just because you can wear shorts and sneakers, just because you can wear a teeshirt, just because you can go without a jacket, doesn’t mean you do.  This is a perfect example of ‘upscale casual’/’smart casual’ attire. Yes, guys – it is a form of casual – these are jeans!  They are distressed jeans by John Varvatos, often found discounted at The Nordstrom Rack…

Notice the subtle ‘distressed’ details, no real rips or holes but enough to add a bit of edginess…

The super lightweight goatskin jacket is also by John Varvatos, but unlikely you will find pieces like this at The Rack…nevertheless, it is worth the splurge because of its year round versatility.  Peter has worn this in December with a black turtleneck, and also with blue jeans and a white shirt.  Worn casual or dressed up, it’s elegant and edgy at the same time!

The shoes were another terrific bargain from The Rack – Maglan loafers in ostrich leather! Best worn with no socks…blue linen shirt from JCrew.

Even for men, accessories add so much! On one arm a watch with a bracelet mix, on the other a simple stainless steel link. Love it!   So, from the basics to the details, that’s ‘what he wore’, so, where did we go?

After strolling around a bit we ended up at Lucca on Hanover Street, quite happy to find two seats at the bar!
While we didn’t stop for sweets, Peter did stop for a cigar, a North End tradition…

Hmmm, seems I left home with Peter, but returned with DeNiro….;-)

Happy Monday!

  • How awesome that Peter will dress like this with no prompting from you! Totally fabulous outfit. For a night out, my husband will usually go for linen shorts, a polo/golf shirt, & loafers with no socks. He doesn’t wear a watch on weekends (despite quite an extensive collection of them) only his wedding band. I tell him I like it when he wears one of his watches– to no avail. To be fair, it’s usually 95 degrees with 100% humidity in the summer here (even in the evenings) so I can understand shorts I guess. Looks like you all had a blast!
