Climate Chic

December is here and for many of us that means chilly weather for the next four months…sometimes bitter cold, sometimes snow, sometimes cold, miserable rain. Here in New England, this means that many women will be giving up style for warmth. You will see shapeless black puffer coats everywhere you look, layers that hide the sex of the person, and boots that a six year old could wear. Not necessary! Your winter wardrobe can be chic and also keep you toasty, a lesson I learned long ago from Ginger…

This was a miserable December day that switched on and off from snow to rain…the suede waterproof boots were a must! These are by Aquatalia, I have had them for years and they are worth every penny.

Next I decided to wear this glen plaid sheath dress from Banana Republic…previously I had only worn it in the summer, never with a blouse underneath – adding the blouse gave it a whole new look! (Blouse by Anne Fontaine)

With the conservative nature of the dress and blouse, mixing in some fun pieces prevents the look from being too predictable or dowdy – gold hoops were a good start!

Nice as is, a perfectly professional look for the office – BUT – maybe one more layer? Yeah, why not…

Nothing too bulky or boxy. Nothing too long. Not a predictable black blazer. This fitted Kate Spade wool cardigan was just right, and the gold buttons added some bling…but best of all, the baby leopard added more fun and visual interest…

Isn’t he cute? 🙂

Ok – time to hit the road! It’s 37 degrees and freezing rain is expected all day…what’s a gal to wear??? The CANDY COSTAS Raincoat of course!

Waterproof, warm, and glamorous!

The feminine shape and belted waist will stand out in the sea of shapeless puffers….

And the generous, dramatic hood will keep hair well protected from the elements…

  • I was complaining this week when the temperature dropped into the 30s at night and for a couple of days- highs in the 40s. But 37 and freezing rain- oh my! Love the outfit and the coat is dreamy.
