Here’s to The Red, White, and Blue!
What a crazy week with the Fourth of July being on a Wednesday. Which weekend is the holiday? This past one or the one coming up? Perhaps both? For many it seems that it includes this entire week as well! As for me, I am working part of this week, then will be enjoying food, drink, family, and patriotic music as much as possible. But why wait until the Fourth to wear patriotic attire? Get in the spirit even if you are heading to the office!
While I may not have the closet full of red and navy that Ginger had, I do have some great basics that together created a relaxed yet professional ‘holiday’ look…a red Wolford top (a recent find at Revolve), navy striped silk pants by Theory, and white booties by Stuart Weitzman.
These shoes are super comfortable and also look nice with skirts or jeans. I love how the white pops with the navy/red and they also are fun worn with an all black outfit. Oh, yes, they also come in black. 😉
When you wear red, especially up against your face, you generally don’t want to wear red lipstick. A nude lip is softer and it allows the color of your top to brighten your face. This is MOCHA by MAC with a sheer gloss on top. Also near the face, who could resist adding a vintage nautical scarf? Found this one years ago in a hospital gift shop for under $25…
With temperatures in the 90s, it is unlikely that I will need a jacket, but you know how AC can be indoors! Instead of a blazer, this JCrew heavy cotton jacket is a more laid back look, perfect for the season and a fun balance with the silk pants…
Sometimes the combination of red, white, and blue can have a dowdy or overly preppy appearance, which is not at all my preference. To avoid this: Mix your fabrics – such as silk pants with cotton jacket. Mix fitted styles (the top) with loose fitting (the pants). Wear a sexy or an edgy shoe – the pointed toe here makes all the difference.
