How Much Are You Like Your Mother?
“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” – OR – “That’s not how I raised you!”…..As we get older, many women see themselves ‘turning into’ their mothers, others perhaps, quite the opposite…for most of us, it is likely somewhere in the middle as the combination of genetics and environment affects who we become as individuals…If you are planning a Mother’s Day brunch or dinner this year, it might be a fun conversation starter to share with each other one way you are just like your mother and one way you are very different…

As for me, vanity is probably what I have most in common with Ginger – along with a love of anything related to style and fashion….bold makeup, chic hairstyles, statement jewelry, fur coats, dramatic hats, Burberry, Prada, Chanel….oh yeah, we shared a love for the high end for sure…..
How am I most different from Ginger? Truth be told, I am not obsessed with having a sparkling clean home. You could literally eat off her floors – you had to remove your shoes upon entering, you could not sit on the beds, she scrubbed her bathtub with Ajax every day (even at their vacation condo in Maine)….my home is neat, it is professionally cleaned twice a month – good enough for me….there are only so many hours in a day, my priorities are much more on enjoying life than having spotless floors.

It’s also interesting how children from the same mother often can be so different….both my sister and I are Ginger bred, yet are not alike in many of our tastes and preferences….my mother drove my poor sister nuts at times as a young girl, trying to force certain styles of dress on her – I can say with confidence that you will not find any plaid skirts, berets, or red checkered pants in her closet today! However, Shelley does love a clean house and works hard to keep it that way. 😉

I think we are alike in our PASSION… we may not always be passionate about the same things, but we are passionate!
