Keep It Simple

cropped black Sometimes you can create the most striking look by keeping your outfit simple….no fussy patterns, no elaborate details, minimal accessories, no pricey fabric – this cotton dress by Splendid is a perfect example, recently worn out to dinner with hubby…..another example goes back to the 80’s when Sharon Stone was a ‘wow’ at the Academy Awards wearing a black cotton mock turtleneck from the Gap! Do you remember?sharon stoneWhen you have a piece that makes a statement on its own, resist the temptation to add a bold necklace, giant earrings, or a scarf – believe me, it’s not easy for me to forego a scarf, but it would have changed this whole look!  014 Simple hoop earrings, silver bracelets, Stuart Weitzman chunky heels…017

Keeping my purse simple – and hands free for drinks – this Kate Spade cross body was perfect…..(found at Revolve, Lexington!)024023

Other benefits of ‘simple’ styling:

  • Out the door faster!  Throw on one or two pieces and off you go.
  • Does not break the bank.
  • Comfort – this soft cotton dress is heavenly!
  • Shows a level of confidence that you can look nice without going overboard.

  • Love all of your posts! This outfit is great. Could you do an article on how you take care of your beautiful wardrobe? Dry cleaning costs? Do you dry clean after every wear? Do you dry anything in the dryer? What do you store off site? Furs? Having beautiful clothes is an investment both in purchase price but also maintenance.
