Mad About Metallics

Have you ever noticed that a certain style and/or color seems to multiply in your closet or home?  One example for me is leopard print – from a bathrobe to bikinis and everything in between, there’s a lot of animal print in my closet and it all sparks joy!   Another one that I can’t get enough of these days is metallics – gold, silver, bronze – you name it, and these pieces are not waiting for a holiday party, or a party of any type actually – they are for everyday enjoyment.  Starting with gold leather Cole Haan sneakers…

Bought these earlier this year, they are super comfortable, light as a feather, and great for traveling.  They look just as cute with a dress or skirt as they do with jeans.

Other favorites are these three clutches, each beautiful in their own unique way…

The gold, top left, belonged to Ginger. 🙂  It is a luxurious soft leather by Donna Karan, at least 20 years old…It can be carried as a clutch and also has a long removable shoulder strap.  Very special!   The top right is also gold but a very different shade of gold…it is from JCrew, probably ten years old or so…the bottom one is a crinkled pewter leather by Eileen Fisher…it’s perfect for adding an edgy accent when wearing jeans and boots!   What’s great about all three?  Perfect size.  Holds cell phone, slim wallet, lipstick, keys.  (Since I wear contacts now, no need for reading glasses anymore, yay!)

Ok, now onto my most recent finds…

If you are looking for an alternative to a nude pump, look no further! A metallic pump goes with everything and this one has the great combination of classic style and true comfort. The color is called ‘vulcano stone’, the brand is Brenda Zaro, found at Sole Amour in Winchester.  (Thank you Amy!) Yet that’s not all, I hit the metallic lottery at Sole Amour…

They look like copper, actually like real metal in certain light, but they are soft leather and feel like slippers – no kidding! By Kelsi Dagger, a Brooklyn designer, the color is called ‘burnt bronze’.  Unique and versatile!

Here I am, wearing them for the first time with denim shorts and a silk tunic…won’t they will be great in the fall with jeans??

And last but not least, I am wearing metallic on my toes!

OPI, ‘Gift of Gold Never Gets Old’…  not too sparkly – a very flattering neutral!

The bottom line:

  • Metallics are a great way to perk up your wardrobe for any season.
  • Don’t save metallics for evening wear alone, they work well as neutrals for daywear, to work or for weekend wear.
  • Do choose just one piece to shine rather than matching shoe to handbag.
  • Don’t save your metallics for ‘dressing up’ – carry a metallic clutch with jeans and boots for instant chic.
  • Goes without saying, but metallics look fabulous with an all black outfit!

  • I have a gold Ralph Lauren skirt I purchased about 10 years ago. I love to wear it with all black. I also have a pair of Sam Edelman bronze ballet flats. Both items are very versatile and comfortable to wear. Love your sneakers!

  • I love metallics, but I draw the line at metallic sneakers. Consider if you bought silver sneakers: that is the name of the program that comes free with Medicare Advantage policies!
