Make A Statement

What does it mean when you wear a ‘statement’ piece? It means the item is bold and eye-catching, usually the focal point of an outfit.  Such as this fabulous necklace, handmade in Mexico…

When I saw the necklace in the display case at Revolve in Belmont, it caught my eye, but holding it my hand was what sold me – it is light as a feather.  Just like shoes can be uncomfortable, so can jewelry…while I love big earrings, chunky bangles, and dramatic necklaces, they must be comfortable!  This bold piece delivers ‘wow’ without weight!  (It even looks better in person) It will be fun to wear with jeans and other casual gear, but on this day I added it to a basic work outfit. The skirt is a pull-on faux suede by Wolford, the white shirt is a no-name brand that I also found at Revolve. You can never have enough basic white shirts and they come in all price points. What I look for: a crisp fabric, a fitted style that doesn’t pull open across the chest, and a stiff generous collar and cuffs.  A timeless piece that looks great under a blazer or even on its own.

With a slim fitting skirt, adding a blazer adds professional finish…

For shoes, black suede slides by Stuart Weitzman, a simple business casual shoe for summer…

Ok, now back to the ‘statement piece’ –  where does one find pieces like this?  Anywhere and everywhere!  Yard sales, discount stores, sidewalk vendors, department stores…you don’t need to spend big bucks to make a big statement.   However.  Even at Revolve this particular necklace was not inexpensive at $150 – BUT – the original price tag was still on it: $777!  Yes, that’s right, three sevens!

A STRIKING STATEMENT, right?
