3 Days, 3 Outfits! Workin’ On The Island
A typical work week for me these days often means two nights a week in a hotel room, so I can almost pack a suitcase with my eyes closed. Does these mean packing light? No way! While I do pay attention to the weight of things, it does not mean I bring less. Wearing a complete change of clothes, including different shoes, can be uplifting when you are away from home. It’s not that I don’t ever repeat pieces – certainly that is efficient packing – but if a different shoe completes an outfit (and it’s not too heavy), I bring it! What else do I consider when packing? Always something reliable. If it’s separates, something I have already worn together or at least tried on so I know it looks good. Dresses. They are one piece no brainers!

Here I am Day 1 on a business trip to Long Island, just arriving at The Garden City Hotel in a summery, professional – and comfortable – ensemble…a lightweight navy blazer, a soft, pale blue striped shirt, with white cropped flares. The two-toned ‘no-name’ handbag is a great accent for the time of year, and the gold jewelry adds simple elegance.
The odd spots all over this pic are not from my camera lens, its from the ‘antiqued’ full length mirror in the room – wanted you to see the length of the pants and how nice the soft beige wedges complement the whole look. Moving on to Day 2…
A no brainer dress! Have had this beige linen with gold chain trim by Anna Molinari for quite a few years and I still LOVE it. Classic and classy.
Added a simple cropped cotton jacket (Theory) in black for the cool morning, and Chanel two-toned sling-backs for instant elegance.
Off I go!
And here I am on Day 3, at The Southhampton Inn…wearing another easy breezy dress, this one a recent find at Revolve, by Anne Fontaine. Talk about discovering a treasure! Black cotton with mother-of-pearl buttons and a sweet scoop neckline. So French! Sure, I could have worn the Chanel sling-backs, but how could I resist wearing these block heels with bows??
Wore a scarf as a wrap, with my black jacket as a backup if need be…
It’s certainly an adventure to stay at new places, especially when they are such nice places. But no bones about it, I am working, not shopping, not partying at night. Sure, I do go out to dinner in the evening….What do I wear then, you ask? That’s for another day! 😉

Candy, I love every single outfit you put together for your business trip. All are elegant, classy, and so YOU. My favorite has to be the black dress with the pearls and those shoes! Wow. Statement making! Can’t wait to see what you wore to go out to dinner in the evenings. And, please share what size bag you took. Carryon size? Full size?
Hi Lori, Thank you! If I am away for just one night I take a small carry-on. Beyond that (as in this trip for two nights) I take the next size up, not huge, but a size up from a carry-on. The suitcase fills up fast: in addition to work clothes I always bring gym clothes and sneakers, as well as one or two casual outfits for after work. (Future post!)
