Real or Fake?
The subject here is plants. Plants add character and warmth to your home and can be a cost-effective way to accessorize and fill spaces. Ginger decorated beautifully with plants and paid attention to the color of the leaves, the shape of the leaves, and how they looked in the space. NEVER fake. She considered fake plants ‘tacky’, in the same way as plastic coverings on furniture….. Well, she must have had a green thumb, or maybe it was because she was at home enough to water them properly and be sure they had the right amount of sun. I have not had the same amount of luck and over the years have mixed in………..artificial plants. Sorry mom! Last week when poking around Home Goods, I was in the home décor aisle when a middle aged woman strolled by – saw me standing there – hesitated – then picked up a fake plant and said, “I can’t believe I am buying an artificial plant!” As if she was being naughty, doing something morally wrong! I told her, “It’s ok, I was raised to have only real plants, but I mix in artificial and they look great”. It’s really OK………Haha….Funny how certain things stick with us.

What I like about the purple shamrock plant (Ginger always had one) is that it ‘signals’ me when thirsty with wilting leaves, perks right up with water – and my large ivy plant is at least 6 years old! It is in a bright spot with afternoon sun and I water it only when the soil is dry. If I had more time I would love more of a variety of real plants – but for now, with limited time, I mix fake and real and do it guilt free!
