The Candy Costas Blog

Thank you for checking out my first blog post after a six month hiatus! For those of you that know me from Instagram, here’s a bit of history of how this all began…

Nine years ago, at the encouragement of my daughter, I created a blog named after my late mother, Ginger, therefore the name ‘Ginger-bred‘. You may wonder, however, why did I use her name?

Throughout my life to her passing in 2004 she routinely shared her very strong opinions on style, home decor, and aging, amongst other things. She was bold, uniquely stylish, and confident – especially for someone who only had a high school diploma. Ralph Lauren was her favorite designer, she custom-decorated our beautiful homes all on her own, she loved being a stay-at-home mom, and she always wore makeup. She believed that a woman should dress ‘age appropriately’, and that after 50 it was all downhill. :-0 While we did not always see eye to eye, I did learn a lot from her and she clearly was a major influence, affecting many of my life choices, both big and small. (Some of my friends choices as well!)

But – important for all of us to keep in mind, whether for social media or in our personal lives, there comes a time when the credit – or blame – must be on ourselves. So moving forward, the ‘Ginger-Bred’ Blog will be the Candy Costas Blog. Ginger’s influence will of course always live on, but it’s time for me to simply be me. 🙂

What will you find here? I am exploding with ideas! You will find outfit and fitness inspiration, travel experiences, occasional recipes, and topics of controversy. To get you started, here are some of my core beliefs:

  • Hogwash to dressing age ‘appropriate’, dress to please yourself
  • Dressing well not only affects your appearance, it affects how you feel and can have a positive influence on your life
  • Being fit after 60 is possible if you make up your mind
  • Any body type/size can dress well and look great
  • Most men have a lot to learn about the value of dressing well (and we can help them!)
  • Don’t save your best pieces for a special occasion – everyday is special
