The Leather Shirt

Looking for a very special gift for a graduate, a dad, or that special man in your life? Something nicer than a cashmere sweater but not as pricey as a new car? (Hahaha…) Here is a shirt that will last a lifetime, a shirt that will always make a bold fashion statement…

A Ralph Lauren black leather western shirt!

On a routine Saturday night, Peter and I were heading out to a local pub for dinner…when I saw what he was wearing, I was ‘wow’d!’…”Please Peter! Before we go, let me take a few pictures!!” He kindly obliged. 🙂

There are so many ways you could style this shirt – with a turtleneck, over a denim shirt, over a crew neck sweater…Peter chose a more casual, ‘rocker’ vibe with John Varvatos cords and a John Varvatos tee…

Don’t let the name ‘shirt’ confuse you – it’s really more of a lightweight jacket styled as a shirt…it can be worn open, or with a few snaps closed in the center…

Or – with a scarf! This silk scarf is also by John Varvatos…yes, JV is one of Peter’s a favorite brands…

As for shoes, Peter chose classic low boots by Cole Haan…you know, he seems to have as many pairs of shoes as I do these days…well, it’s really the same for men – shoes can make or break an outfit….

And shoes were certainly a great feature of my outfit on this night…

Citizens of Humanity straight leg jeans, Ralph Lauren boots

I wore black on black separates with Ralph Lauren boots…do note that these are straight leg, not skinny jeans…much easier to wear with a boot, and IMO, much more flattering…but enough about me, back to menswear…

The Bottom Line For Men:

  • If you’re a grown up man, ditch the sports and athletic logo gear! There are lots of fun casual options that are stylish.
  • A leather ‘shirt’ is really a type of jacket; think of that if you are trying to justify the cost. 😉
  • Dressing well and looking your best should be part of your daily life – not only when you’re going to a wedding or on a job interview.

Work hard. Play hard. Enjoy every day.
