What We Wore

Tis the never ending season of graduation parties and here we are off to another Belmont celebration of a friend’s daughter graduating from college….outdoor party, starts at 5:30pm, what to wear?? Since it was a ‘Saturday Night’, just like Ginger, to me that means kicking it up! My choice was a black cotton tube dress bought a few years back at Bloomingdales….while it is strapless and very fitted, it is cotton jersey (casual fabric) and the length is not too short so it is classy, not trashy! It can be worn so may different ways: add a wide camel belt and a chunky necklace for an edgier look, or a white blazer and gold sandals for a more classic look….there are endless possibilities! Here I chose a long camel sweater from Calypso to wear over the dress with a chunky heeled sandal from Nordstrom’s that gives me height with heels that would not dig into the grass….large tortoise shell hoops and a wrist of layered bracelets was enough to keep the look elegant and not overdone…candy arm

105 Ok, now what did HE wear? On this warm summer evening my husband chose to wear faded red cotton Bonobos pants and a white cotton shirt by John Varvatos….tucking in the shirt with a canvas belt gave him a look that was still casual but more refined…the loafers by NRO are equally casual yet polished….and even on a guy, details matter: a layer of bracelets and an interesting watch adds style and sophistication….103 peter bracelets
As it turned out, many others this evening decided to wear faded red or pink shorts! If the ‘go to’ outfit for the ladies was white pants, it was ‘Nantucket red’ on the bottom for the men! Nice change from khakis, don’t you think?
