Deck The Halls

Just as our wardrobe needs regular updates, so do our holiday decorations! Sure, some decorations are fun to pull out year after year, yet to create an interesting atmosphere you definitely need to change it up, and and/or make additions to what you already have. Home Goods is a fun place to check out each year as it explodes with all types of Christmas items at bargain prices…for more unique items in a creative and inspiring shop, you have to check out Nesting in Concord Center – by far my favorite place to visit during the holiday season!
Nesting is not only for holiday shopping – last year I discovered several treasures for a southwestern themed wall grouping, previously shared in Adventure In Home Decor. It includes a real mink, a skull, an antique frame, and tin art. This year I found another great piece for the wall and added a few festive touches for the season!
New: this adorable paper mache deer was a perfect complement to the other pieces and how sweet that her head is turned into the room! I added the red grosgrain ribbon, a simple Christmassy accent…
A bit of trimming for the framed skull: glitzy pine cones, a brass star ornament, and a golden glass bulb – perfect! (Thank you to Wendy in Nesting for helping me with these selections and to Peter for promptly pulling out his ladder and hammer!)
If you have stopped into Home Goods this month, have you seen the vast selection of holiday pillows? Such a fun and easy way to give your room a boost! The antlers and rich color attracted me to the reindeer pillow, and the beige music pillow was a nice contrast…
One final change over last year – my kitchen shelves…usually filled with snowmen and lots of red, I aimed for a more sophisticated look, using just metallics and neutrals…nothing here was bought new, just rearranged items I already had in a new way. Thrifty me! 😉
Other possibilities to change up your holiday decor:
- Try a different style of wreath on your front door. Always do a red bow? Try cranberry or plaid.
- Using all white lights on your tree? Try multicolored! (or vice versa)
- Put a faux fur throw on your sofa. (Home Goods has ’em!)
- Update your candles; whether you like large pillars or votives, they are an instant way to set a festive atmosphere.
Hope you are enjoying the season! 🙂

Candy,
Love your Christmas decor. I haven’t put up a tree since my grandparents and mom passed away, but I do love a nice soft pillow or two. I have a cranberry pillow with pine cones on it and a rectangular pillow with holly berries and leaves. I think they add a little holiday touch to the house.
