Don’t Sit On The Bed

That was a big rule growing up with Ginger – can you imagine?? Don’t sit on the bed?…. not in my house!   Nothing is so precious that it can’t be used and enjoyed to the max (what the heck harm would sitting do anyway???)…..Another bedroom rule growing up: Never leave the house with the beds unmade……. Ok, admittedly, that one I do follow. I find neatness and order comforting, while I am getting ready for work and then coming home after a long day. Making the bed is a simple process of pulling up the sheet and coverlet, then quickly arranging the pillows. Sometimes Peter will help and he copies the way they make beds in department stores, which explains the very put together look below.

Two details in our bedroom are Ginger inspired: the patterned carpet is a fine wool which was installed when we did our home renovation – my mother opened my eyes to this type of carpet – it is pricey, but once you see it and walk on it other choices pale in comparison…..and the finials! Those are the decorative objects at the top of a lamp – kind of like jewelry for a room……

While your first instinct may be to make all purchases at once when you are first decorating a room, it pays to not rush – take your time and wait until an item grabs your attention……the space above our bed was empty for quite awhile and I wasn’t sure on what kind of art would look best……one day I happened upon these canvas prints in a shop in Belmont and they called out to me! After checking the measurements to be sure they would fit, it was an easy decision.   Ginger would have loved them…..

So – do you make your bed every day?

  • Why yes I do make my bed every day! Hubby does as well.

I also take comfort in order and neatness. Big surprise I know.

  • Absolutely! My Aunt Tilly always said that whatever else in the house is cluttered or messy, if the beds are made, everything looks fine!
