Ever since I was old enough to hold a Barbie doll, clothing and dramatic styles have been a passion throughout my life. With a glamorous mother who was a major source of inspiration, I learned early on that dressing well is not only fun, but that it truly affects how you feel and how others in society perceive you. Dressing with standout style and attention to detail is something I embrace 365 days/year.
As a working woman in the healthcare industry, business travel has always been part of my routine. Living in New England, that means waiting for a train or a taxi, handling briefcase and luggage, in all kinds of weather, from brutal heat to freezing cold. Stemming back to a lesson from my mother, “Always dress according to the weather”, I prided myself on having the right pieces in my wardrobe to always be weather appropriate, comfortable, and still look chic.
Except for one type of weather: cold rain. In the fall, winter, or spring, when temperatures were not cold enough for snow but delivered that ‘chill your bones’ raw rain, I never knew what to wear! My classic trench coat had no hood and I had no extra hand for an umbrella. Nylon jackets or rubberized ‘slickers’ were not nearly warm enough, even with layering, and were way too casual looking anyway. Wool coats would not repel the rain.
I always wished that I had a raincoat that was waterproof, warm, and glamorous. Something I could wear when I was dressed up, something warm, something with a generous hood. As hubby heard me voice this over and over again, he suggested I design one. Me??? Design a coat? The challenge was on for this woman who went to nursing school, not trained in the fashion industry.
One night when away for business, sitting on my bed at the Courtyard Marriott, I grabbed a sheet of paper from my laptop bag and sketched my vision of the CANDY COSTAS Raincoat. Water repellent, warm, and glamorous, with a dramatic and practical hood. And so it began…
Fast forward to the present.
Now, when a woman has a special event to attend and it’s cold and raining, she doesn’t say, “Damn, I have to wear my raincoat.” She says, “YES, I get to wear my raincoat!!!”
The CANDY COSTAS Raincoat is now available online.
The adventure continues…:-)
