Risky Business

Generra sweater, BCBG skirt

Whenever you try a new style of clothing and/or a new brand you are taking a risk. You never know if you are going to really love a piece until you wear it – sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. About a year ago I splurged on a real black leather skirt, and it turned out to be a big mistake. I tried to deny it for months, but it was too short and just not comfortable. 🙁 Moving on….
Pictured here is a faux leather skirt by BCBG that I bought this year, and it is a winner! Very fitted yet comfortable, not too short, great neutral color that will work equally well with black. This day I chose chestnut fishnets and my good ol’ Cole Haan booties.
The chunky ivory sweater was a risk too! Found it at Revolve and loved its unique style – definitely does not scream “I’m old, I’m cold”!

053 What turned out to be a challenge was adding an additional layer over this very chunky sweater – even capes made it look too bulky…Hmmm, maybe if I wore a long sleeved turtleneck underneath, I could wear the sweater as a jacket…yeah, but when it gets really chilly, I will still need an outer layer…033Hooray!  Found a solution tucked away in my cedar closet…a luxurious fur jacket that I scooped up at Revolve two years ago – certainly no need to wait for winter AND no need to save fur – real or faux –  for special occasions or evening wear. 056 It was a refreshing change from my usual color choices to wear rich earth tones.  Warm brown Kate Spade specs  and a bold reddish brown lip color completed the look!

So, what’s the last clothing risk YOU took?  How did it turn out???
