Transition Season

We are officially in the “transition” season – no longer winter coat and clothes, but certainly not summer clothes yet. What’s a girl to wear? It’s a good time to rely on your basics, in this case, a basic black sheath dress, an old reliable from Banana Republic. To lighten up the look for spring, I topped it off with a beige cropped jacket, bare legs, and nude pumps. You could also wear dark stockings and black patent shoes, or a sheer natural stocking with the nude pump. Because it is April that does not mean you need to be wearing pastels or bright colors….especially for business wear, muted colors are a more serious, elegant choice. It is time to put away the heavy wool fabrics and wear tropical weight wools or synthetic blends that can go from a chilly morning to a mild afternoon (especially in New England)….I have a black cashmere cape that I will throw on as an extra layer of warmth over a suit jacket, usually off by late morning…..

If you don’t have a black sheath dress in your closet, put it on your list for spring shopping….if you do have one, maybe it is time to add another with a different neckline, a lighter fabric, or a cap sleeve. I promise you, you will wear it to death!
