Unique Chic

Today I propose a fun wardrobe challenge: go deep into your closet and pull out something you would not normally wear this time of year, or something you generally reserve for special occasions. Once you choose something, your assignment is to wear it this week – differently than you ever wore it before. Maybe you have a sequin blazer – how about wearing it this weekend with jeans? Maybe it’s a pair of boots – try wearing them with a summer dress! Let the fun begin!

This metallic pleated skirt (Ann Taylor) was tucked away with my fall and winter clothes – it was something I purchased in the fall and was accustomed to wearing it with boots and a black blazer…the red suede pumps, while perfectly comfortable, were not one of my ‘everyday’ shoes…

Inspired by an ad on Instagram, I remembered my shiny skirt and decided to give it a summer debut! What fun!!!

To balance the flashiness of the skirt I wore a simple white tee by Rag and Bone and added a whimsical long necklace…because I was heading to work, next decision was what jacket to wear…

A classic navy blazer (Smythe brand) instantly added a professional finish…while a black blazer would look equally nice, I love navy in the summer!

Strictly for style, and partly due to my leopard obsession, I could not resist throwing on this long silk scarf (over 20 years old, it belonged to Ginger)…

Do you like the outfit with or without the scarf?

I actually like the more relaxed look without the scarf and ended up tossing it in my bag at the office…sometimes it’s just what you are in the mood for! The bottom line, this outfit felt very ‘on point’ and trendy while still being business appropriate…I’m already planning another way to wear the skirt on the weekend: with white sneakers and a cropped denim jacket! 🙂

OK, now it’s YOUR turn!!! Are you up for the challenge?

  • I have a gold Ralph Lauren skirt that I usually wear in the winter. Might see what I can cook up this week with it.
