Urban Edge

266 This is a business casual day where I went for an urban, edgy look with two Rag and Bone pieces – the striped wool sweater from the Rag and Bone shop on Newbury Street, and the skirt which was a great find a while back at TJMax.  Under the sweater I wore a thin cotton mock turtleneck by Theory…268

The sheer lace panel of the skirt is a great detail that I like to show off by wearing natural stockings…the plain leather booties add edginess to the feminine skirt.

283 To stick with urban look, I opted for no ‘pop of color’…instead, only black accessories:  a black scarf, beret, leather jacket, and super cool driving gloves!  It was an exceptionally mild day in January, so these layers were just enough.285 With the long pleated skirt, a cropped jacket is the right proportion because it shows the waistline. The simplicity of this jacket also makes it work appropriate.290One final black piece: a Prada handbag; distressed black leather with camel leather bows, a nice contrast of edgy and feminine, one of my many Revolve treasures.

It is mixing textures – leather, lace, wool – that makes an urban look fun and not ‘funereal’.  You say you’re a suburban gal?  That’s ok!  No need to work in the city to wear an urban look – this look goes just about anywhere, day or night, millennial  or 50 plus. 😉

  • I could never do a look as urban as this. It looks great on you though! The beret and sweater are my favorite pieces.
