What’s Wrong With This Picture?

Hint: This was taken on a Saturday night. Date night. One of my mottos: When the sun goes down, the heels go up. That’s it! Why the heck was I wearing Birkenstocks – or any flats for that matter – on a Saturday night???

Because I was in pain! Boy, how we take for granted being pain free. What happened, you ask? Not exactly sure. One day on the beach while on vacation I noticed a dime sized abrasion on the top of my left foot…don’t recall how it happened, probably got scraped on a piece of coral as we were playing football on the beach…didn’t really hurt at the time. I cleaned it, applied Neosporin and a Bandaid, then didn’t give it a second thought – until after a week at home it looked yucky and was painful. Ugh. Off to Urgent Care I went where the physician debrided it with a scalpel (OUCH!) and put me on Cipro for 10 days. Are you still with me? :-0
Instead of a Bandaid I was instructed to do bulky ‘wet to dry’ gauze dressings twice a day. Let me remind you that I am a nurse. Ha! That didn’t prevent me from getting queasy from this whole process, and being a nurse didn’t keep me on this treatment plan which is quite painful. Nurses can be the worst patients I guess.
I decided to go back to Bandaids, hoping that the Cipro would help the small wound to eventually heal. As of this writing, not completely healed yet but definitely much better.
Ok, back to the outfit! I wore the Birks because I could widen the buckle on the left foot to accommodate the bulky dressing – it still hurt like hell and I ended up taking off the left shoe and hobbling through Kenmore Square, in pursuit of the Island Creek Oyster House…quite a vision, huh? Once seated at the bar – no pain. Thank goodness.

The gauzy yellow blouse is by Free People, it’s a feminine and fun top that is perfect for a warm summer night…the skirt is by Mother jeans, found at Sole Amour in Winchester – in addition to the great fit, I love the asymmetrical hem and the fringe detail…

If it wasn’t for the fact that it hurt to walk, I would say that it was actually a fun change to wear flats and a more casual outfit on a Saturday night, especially considering the type of restaurant we went to.
On a more serious note, when you are healthy it is easy to take feeling good for granted. Even for someone like myself who works in the healthcare industry and discusses illnesses daily, experiencing something firsthand is really an eye opener.
Be well, and have a fun weekend!!! 🙂

Ahhh…. candy, this certainly resonates with me . I had surgery 6 weeks ago and have had daily dressing changes with vna since. That’s what happens when you ignore symptoms that lead to a very deep infected cyst. I refused to look for the first 3 weeks post op. VN couldn’t believe I wasn’t curious! It sucks to be in pain and on the other side . Side note!! Love the yellow top! Still dislike the birks but I guess in this case they came in handy . Happy summer !!
Oh no! Hope you are almost healed – it is awful to be in pain and I hate wounds!!! Funny, us nurses!
Love the entire outfit! Hate it that being in pain was the cause. This ensemble is quite typical for me on a Saturday night (if we’re going somewhere casual of course). I’m just not very interested in getting dressed up when it’s 90 degrees outside at 8:00 p.m.
